We were able to achieve all our key planned activities within an ambitious business plan. We launched a number of items such as Safer Clinical Systems and Closing the Gap award scheme. We achieved a step change in our ability to influence government, most notably around the English Department of Health’s Next Stage Review.

2007 saw all five of the Health Foundation’s strategic aims deliver full programmes of work and reach full effectiveness. We continued to build constructive links across the health sector and used our unique positioning to broker relationships with policy, academic, clinical and managerial groups.

Significant new initiatives were developed and launched in 2006. Highlights include the launch of a new website as part of our Quest for Quality and Improved Performance research initiative, making awards to six new Clinician Scientists and launching three major new demonstration projects, including an innovative quality improvement initiative in Malawi.

This year marked the beginning of a journey to develop a stronger understanding of the field of quality improvement in healthcare; to launch new demonstration projects; and to consolidate and develop our programming to align it with our new strategic aims.

2004 was a year of important development for The Health Foundation, as it was the year we adopted a new strategic plan to provide a blueprint for the next five years and a framework for business planning across the organisation. Improving the quality of healthcare for the people of the UK remained as the core purpose of the Foundation.
