Sir David Carter
Chairman
Sir David serves currently as a Trustee and Vice Chairman of Cancer Research UK and as Chairman of the Board for Academic Medicine in Scotland, Queen's Nursing Institute Scotland and the Scottish Foundation for Surgery in Nepal. He served as Chief Medical Officer in Scotland (1996-2000) and before that was Regius Professor of Clinical Surgery in Edinburgh (1988-1996). He is a Fellow of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh and of numerous other Royal Colleges in the UK and international surgical associations.
He was formerly Vice-President of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and served as Surgeon to Her Majesty The Queen in Scotland. He is a past President of the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, Surgical Research Society and British Medical Association.
Sir David has received a number of prizes and awards including the Moynihan Prize (Association of Surgeons), William Leslie Prize (University of Edinburgh), Gold Medal of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Gold Medal of the British Medical Association.
