With the changes to the healthcare landscape and the pressures of the financial climate, it’s more important than ever for the Health Foundation to provide protected space, time and resources for people working to improve the quality of healthcare.
Here are some of the highlights and opportunities to get involved in our healthcare improvement programmes, leadership programmes and other areas of work in 2011:
There’ll be opportunities for teams and organisations to take part in a number of our improvement programmes this year.
In March, we looked for organisations to take part in our Safer Clinical Systems programme, focusing on improving healthcare systems to make care safer.
We’re still finalising the details, but later in the year there will be the opportunity for health service teams to apply for the next rounds of our Closing the Gap and Shine programmes.
We’re also launching an exciting new programme to support networks involved in improving healthcare. Networks will be able to apply to access expert support and funding to help them sustain and grow their improvement activities.
Early in the year we took applications for GenerationQ, our fully-funded, Ashridge Business School accredited, leadership programme.
Our Quality Improvement Fellowships, which fund clinically qualified senior NHS professionals to spend a year at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement in the US, will be open for application in the summer.

We‘re a partner at the Patient Safety Congress in May. If you have an interest in patient safety and want to hear about best practice in patient safety from across the UK – including from our programmes and partners – visit our Events page to get a 25% discount on delegate rates.
We'll also be at the International Forum for Quality and Safety in April, Managing Long Term Conditions Conference in May, the NHS Confederation conference in July ann NHS Evidence in November. If you’re going, look out for our speakers on the main programme, and visit us at our stand where we’ll be available to talk about our work and provide copies of our latest research and reports.
Already this year, we’ve launched a suite of materials that share learning from our Safer Patients Initiative. We’ve also published our IRIS case study, which explores our programme looking at improving care for women experiencing domestic violence.
In 2011, we will be publishing evaluations of our Co-creating Health and Engaging with Quality in Primary Care improvement programmes, new additions to our Quality Made Simple guides for boards and our case study series, and a range of topical research reports. Sign up to receive publication e-alerts.
We’ll also continue to share the learning and experiences from our work with government and policy influencers in the health services across the UK. Read our full range of consultation responses.
We’re continuing to develop our blog, featuring comment and opinion from Health Foundation people and from people who have worked with us over the years. Share your views and join the debate by posting comments. You can also follow us on Twitter to get the latest on our work to improve the quality of healthcare.
