Evidence shows that healthcare is not always safe and that even high performing healthcare organisations can improve the quality and safety of the care they deliver. Boards have a major role to play in ensuring that their organisations focus on quality improvement approaches, apply them, and achieve the necessary outcomes.
We believe there is a compelling case for applying organisational or industrial quality improvement approaches to healthcare.
'Quality improvement made simple' is the first in a new series of quality improvement guides for boards. It is intended for those who need to understand quality improvement approaches but who are not directly involved in the day-to-day work of a quality improvement programme.
The guide was published in July 2010. Further guides are planned for publication in 2011.
