Generation Q

In brief

GenerationQ is a pioneering leadership programme, designed to develop a new generation of Health Foundation Fellows who are skilled and effective leaders of quality improvement in healthcare.

It builds on the knowledge and experience we have gained from managing a wide range of leadership development programmes. Evaluation of these programmes shows that improvement is best achieved by leaders who have both personal and quality improvement skills.

GenerationQ develops leaders who understand how complex health systems work and who inspire others to transform healthcare quality and bring about sustainable, system-wide change.

Key points

  • GenerationQ is a fully-funded part-time leadership programme.
  • The programme is delivered in partnership with respected leadership development providers Ashridge and Unipart Expert Practices (part of The Unipart Group).
  • The programme is an opportunity for talented, senior people working in healthcare to gain an Ashridge-accredited postgraduate qualification (certificate, diploma or MSc).
  • Fellows are sponsored by an appropriate senior member of their organisation who work with them throughout the whole process.
  • The personal study time required to complete GenerationQ is an average of 10-25 hours of study per month over an 18 month period (two years for the MSc).

GenerationQ 2011 is now closed for applications. We will re-open in 2013. To recieve notification of the next round and other opportunities to get involved with our work, please register for email alerts.

“Right across the NHS there is extraordinary talent and passion for improving the quality of care. The Health Foundation supports and empowers great leaders to inspire and facilitate a new culture of improvement.”

I am retired old GP with 40 years of work--I am knowledgeable on preventive medicine and healthy life styles--I have rarely used the NHS but have been paying for it at great cost. Should there not be some credit for healthy patients and an increase in healthy life styles
I appreciate that this programme is aimed at people who hold senior positions within their organisations. What advice would you offer me??
I am a Learning Disability Nurse with over 25 years experience and am keen to influence change and practice within health care for people with learning disabilities.
Whilst I do not hold a 'senior' position within my organisation, I do feel my role involves encouraging others to improve the services they offer and influence a change in attitude towards people with learning disabilities.
I consider I demonstrate leadership qualities but would love to develop these further.
All suggestions would be very welcome!!
Dear GenerationQ,

May i ask:
When is the potential start date for the next course?

Owen
Hi Owen,

We have not yet set the dates for the next round of the programme but we will do do by the autumn. So, please get in touch then.

Regards
Amjad
can you tell me where we are with this? Thanks Tracy
could you give any update on dates for the next round of the programme?
Many thanks
Fiona.
I was so lucky to be successful in applying to the Generation Q programme in 2011 and have been living and breathing leadership and quality improvement science ever since.

It is hard work, and I have to be very disciplined to make sure that I do the work required to make the most of the learning opportunities offered, but it is also easily the most challenging and the most inspiring thing I have ever done in my professional career. I have learned so much that I have been able to apply to my every day practice already.

I would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone who feels passionately about their role in the providing high quality healthcare services.
