Innovation is about doing things differently or doing new things to make positive change. There are various definitions of innovation in healthcare but they all focus on introducing new methods, technologies or ideas to make someone or something better. Clinicians, managers and support staff in the NHS and social care are just as likely to put forward innovations as researchers, policy makers and senior leaders.
Innovation is not just about technology such as medical devices and computing. It is also about developing services by changing processes or altering the way services are organised and run.
