Demonstration Projects

Our large-scale and high-impact demonstration projects seek to test out new ideas for improving the quality of healthcare. Our aim is to take the best ideas – those that we can prove really make a difference to improving the quality and safety of patient care – and encourage uptake throughout the NHS.

  • Co-creating Health

    Hundreds of studies have shown that supporting self-management can lead to dramatically improved outcomes for patients. Despite this, it remains at the periphery of most health services. This self-management initiative aims to transform healthcare for people with long-term conditions.

  • Engaging with Quality Initiative

    This scheme aims to engage healthcare professionals to improve the quality of clinical care across the UK. Awards have been made to Royal Colleges and other professional organisations to enable them to carry out eight clinical quality improvement projects.

  • Engaging with Quality in Primary Care

    This scheme is funding nine projects to engage primary care clinicians in quality improvement projects and, by doing so, increase capacity for improvements in clinical quality in primary care in the UK.

  • Safer Patients Initiative

    Around one in ten patients in hospital experience an incident which puts their safety at risk, and about half of these could have been prevented. This initiative was set up address this problem and find ways of making hospitals safer for patients.

    Co-creating Health was designed through extensive consultation, learning from international best practice and comprehensive reviews of the available literature.
