Dr Simon Eaton, Consultant Physician and Diabetologist, Diabetes Resource Centre, North Tyneside General Hospital, Tyne & Wear

Simon graduated in Medical Sciences in 1991 followed by a BM BS in 1993 and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2007.  He attained a Doctor of Medicine (DM) in 2003, followed by a Certificate of Medical Education in 2004.  Simon has been in his current post providing specialist diabetes services across Northumbria since July 2003.  He is also a member of the National Steering Group of DESMOND (Diabetes Education for Self Management – Ongoing and Newly Diagnosed), Chair of Northern Region Diabetes Service Advisory Group and is Lead Clinician for Care Planning in Diabetes for the Department of Health.

Inese Edgcumbe, Patient Access Manager, The Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust
 
Inese gained a Diploma with distinction in Business Management in 1999 and is currently studying for a BSc (Hons) in Health Service Management.  Inese has been in her current post since November 2007 having previously worked for the Trust as a Business Systems Manager and a Project Manager.  The main purpose of Inese’s current role is to ensure provision of high quality, timely, customer focused and equitable patient access to services and to improve patient experience throughout their Outpatient pathway.

Dr.Simon Enright, Consultant in Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia, Mid Yorkshire NHS Trust
 
Simon graduated with a MBChB in 1989 followed by a DA from the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 1991. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 1994 and completed specialist training (CCST) in Anaesthesia/Intensive Care Medicine in 1997.  Simon has been in his current post since 1998 as  Consultant in Intensive Care and Anaesthesia and was Clinical Director (latterly Lead Clinician) for Intensive Care from 1998-2006. He has been Clinical Director for Anaesthesia since May 2006.  His main responsibilities include clinical governance, clinical quality and developments, manpower planning and anaesthetic service delivery across 3 hospitals.  Additionally Simon represents his Directorate on a number of internal and external committees

Damian Gardner, Team Leader/Deputy Head of Clinical Psychology Department, Northamptonshire Healthcare NHS Trust (NHT)
 
Damian graduated with a BSc 1st Class Hons in Experimental Psychology in 1986 and a Diploma in Clinical Psychology BPS in 1993 and in 1999 completed an MA in Integrative Psychotherapy.  Damian has been in his current post since January 2005.  His main responsibilities as a Team Leader includes the management of a small specialist team which works across all areas of the Trust and with partner agencies offering training, project work, consultation and direct work with people with significant personality difficulties.  As Deputy Head of the Clinical Psychology Department, Damian has responsibilities for research activity, training and CPD activities and managing the Psychology Department Clinical Leads in the Forensic, Older Adult and Palliative Care specialities.

Mr Chris Hudson, Operational Manager- Respond (Drug & Alcohol Treatment Service), Surrey PCT

Chris graduated with a BA in Nursing in 1995 and a graduate Certificate in Community Health Nursing before going on to gain a Graduate Diploma in Advanced Clinical Nursing (Psychiatry).  Chris has been in his current post since May 2005.  His main responsibilities include oversight of clinical governance, health & safety, performance management of clinical staff, marketing, communications, partnership & external relations, budgeting, procurement, strategic development, quality assurance, effective response to complaints, service user involvement, matching capacity and demand, and leadership. He also carries some residual clinical responsibilities as member of the nursing team.

Amit Khutti, Director of Strategy and Service Planning, Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust

Amit graduated with a BA in English Language & literature in 1999.  He has been in his current post since February 2007 and prior to that held the position of Team Leader and Senior Civil Servant in the Health Team and Capability Reviews Team with the Prime Minister’s Delivery Unit.  His main areas of responsibility include strategy, service planning and performance. 

Emily McKie, Associate Director of Joint Mental Health Commissioning, Lewisham Primary Care Trust

Emily graduated from Cambridge University in 2000 with a BA hons in Theology and Religious Studies. After completing the NHS General Management Training Scheme in 2002, Emily went on to gain an MSc with distinction in Health Care Policy and Management in 2004.  Emily has been in her current post since July 2005.  She is responsible for the strategic commissioning of Adult Mental Health and Social Care Services for Lewisham, and manages the Pooled Budget of £50 million. Emily also coordinates the overarching contract with South London and Maudsley (SLaM) Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust. 

Dr Jo Mountfield, Director of Education Southampton University Hospitals Trust

Jo graduated with a MBChB in 1987 and became a member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1993.  In 2000 Jo gained an MA (Hons) in Education.  Jo has been Consultant Obstetrician since September 2001 and Director of Education since June 2005.  In her current role Jo manages an integrated directorate of education and learning (IDEAL) with a senior management team representing all the professional and non-professional groups across the Trust.  She is responsible for the interprofessional education and training across the Trust and sits on the Trust Management Board. As well as directly managing her own team of multiprofessional staff Jo also leads a multiprofessional team of tutors and educators across the Trust.

Pauline Mulholland, Nutrition and Diet Therapy Manager, South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust, Belfast

Pauline graduated with a BSc (Hons) in Biochemistry in 1984.  In 1986 Pauline gained a Postgraduate Diploma in Dietetics (with State Registration) and in 1998, a Professional Diploma in Advanced Dietetic Practice.  She is currently studying for a Postgraduate Diploma in Health Service Management.   Pauline has been in her current post since 1998.  Her role as Nutrition and Diet Therapy Manager is to establish and co-ordinate a comprehensive, integrated, seamless and effective service which spans the full range of hospital and community settings.  She is responsible for delivering challenging contract volumes within available income, which meet the quality and outcome standards agreed with purchasers and delivered in consultation with service users.

Professor Gillian Needham, Postgraduate Medical Dean, NHS Education for Scotland

Gillian graduated in Medicine from Manchester in 1981, becoming a Fellow of the Royal College of Radiologists in 1986. A full time Consultant Radiologist for 10 years, since 1999 she has been Postgraduate Dean in the North of Scotland and during that time received honorary Fellowships from the Royal College of Physicians (Edinburgh) in 1999 and the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) in 2007. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.   

As one of 18 UK Postgraduate Deans, Gillian has responsibility for Quality Management of Foundation Programmes (first 2 postgraduate years) and Specialty Training Programmes for doctors in training across the North of Scotland, under the statutory regulation of the General Medical Council (GMC) and Postgraduate Medical Education and Training Board
(PMETB).

As a senior manager with NHS Education for Scotland (NES) she contributes to a range of national projects and programmes and leads NES' work stream on Remote and Rural Healthcare Education.

Squadron Leader Edward Nicol, SpR Cardiology/General Internal Medicine, Royal Air Force Medical Branch

Edward joined the Royal Air Force as a Medical Cadet in 1995 and graduated from Nottingham with a BMedSci in 1996 followed by a BMBS in 1998.  He became a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 2002 and gained a certificate (2003) and a postgraduate Diploma (level 7 2007) in management before becoming a Chartered Manager (2007).  He has been a member of the Chartered Management Institute since 2003.  Edward has been an RAF Medical Officer since 1995 and is currently a Cardiology and General Medical Registrar with rolling honorary contracts at Individual NHS Trusts.  He is a member of the Chief Medical Officers National Implementation Team on Venous Thrombo-Embolism and also acts as a part time medical advisor to the Healthcare Commission.

Lucy O’Meara, General Manager, Adult Mental Health Services, Surrey and Borders Partnership NHS Trust

Lucy qualified as a Registered General Nurse in 1984 and a Registered Mental Nurse in 1988.  She has since gained diploma’s in Counselling and Group Facilitation. Lucy has been in her current post since July 2005.  She is responsible for the leadership, clinical effectiveness, business and financial management of services encompassing inpatient, rehabilitation, continuing care and specialist community services.  This includes 11 teams with 160 staff from health and social care disciplines with an overall budget of £14 million. The purpose of the service is to provide mental health care for adults of working age to include assessment, medical, nursing, psychological care and treatment, rehabilitation towards full recovery and on going community care to ensure good health and integration back into their communities and the best quality of life that is possible

Maria Quinn, Allied Health Professional Lead, Children & Young People’s Services, Northumberland, Tyne & Wear NHS Trust
 
Maria graduated with a Diploma in Occupational Therapy in 1990 and went on to specialise in Child & Adolescent Mental Health completing the ENB 603 (OT) in 1995 and then an MSc in Health Sciences, Occupational Therapy in 1998. 

Maria has additionally qualified as a Reiki Practitioner and IHBC Massage therapist, studied Life Coaching and is currently training as an NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) Practitioner.   As Lead Allied Health Professional since July 2007, her main responsibility is to ensure the provision of high quality, effective and efficient AHP services to children and young people with mental health/learning disabilities.  As a Lead Occupational Therapist with a specialist clinical caseload Maria’s role will involve the provision of high quality specialist interventions.  In addition Maria will provide training and development of staff, carry out research and development and strategically influence service developments for Allied Health Professionals, exploring and developing new and innovative ways of working.

Dr Mary Ryan, Consultant, Paediatric Emergency Medicine, Royal Liverpool Children’s NHS Trust
 
Mary graduated with a MB, BAO, BCh in 1995.  She became a member of the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland in 1998 and a fellow of the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (UK) in 2001.  Mary has recently completed an MSc in Health Economics & Management at the University of Sheffield.  She has been in her current post since October 2004.  Her responsibilities include the care of patients presenting to the emergency department; the supervision and training of junior doctors; co-lead consultant of the Acute Admissions Unit and chair of RLCH / Ormskirk District General Hospital Paediatric A&E Developmental Network.

Jason Warner, Community Learning Disability Nurse, Ridgeway Partnership NHS Trust

Jason graduated with a 1st class BA (Hons) in Learning Disability Nursing in 2002.  He has been in his current position since October 2003 and prior to that worked as an Auxillary Mental Health Nurse and as a Specialist Inpatient Learning Disability Nurse.  In his current role, Jason's main responsibilities are providing a wide and diverse range of health assessment, care planning, support and advice to adults who have a learning disability and those who support them within community settings.  Jason also formulates and facilitates unique health promotion initiatives in the form of men's health and mixed gender adult learning groups.  Clinical specialities within the learning disability field include diabetes and its treatment, obesity, mental ill health (causes and treatment), sex and sexuality and male health.

Oliver Warren, Clinical Research Fellow and Surgical Registrar, NHS London Strategic Health Authority

Oliver studied at Imperial College School of Medicine, where he graduated Bachelor of Science (Hons) in 1998, and Bachelor of Medicine (Hons) and Surgery (Hons) in 2001. His performance in his final examinations led to him being awarded the Imperial College Gold Medal and being proxime accessit to the University of London Gold Medal. At the end of his Basic Surgical Training he became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England. 

Oliver has been in his current position since February 2006, where he is undertaking a two year period of formalised research leading to a submission of a thesis for a Doctor of Medicine degree (MD).  He has four main areas of responsibility: Academic, Clinical, Educational and Project Management. In this period he has published over 20 scientific papers, and presented his work nationally and internationally. He has been clinical lead on projects to enhance clinician-manager relations, develop leadership in trainee surgeons and empower patients to be involved in their own safety in hospital. He continues to work as a surgical registrar at St. Mary’s Hospital and is heavily involved in teaching undergraduates at Imperial College Faculty of Medicine. In the next six months he is being seconded to Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham’s ministerial office at the Department of Health, where he will work as an adviser, and will also spend one day a week at the strategic health authority, working on a project to identify and develop future medical leaders.
