The Health Foundation Leadership Fellows

Chris Hudson
Chris Hudson is a Health Foundation Leadership Fellow

The Health Foundation Leadership Fellows is an unrivalled opportunity that provides intensive and personalised coaching, learning sets and other development activities for clinicians and managers who have the potential to become future leaders of high quality healthcare.

As part of a multi-professional and mutually supportive learning group, successful applicants will acquire the skills and insights to enable them to make an outstanding contribution to improving the quality of patient care.

This is the last opportunity to apply for this prestigious scheme as we are developing a new individual leadership scheme to replace it and Leaders for Change in 2009.

We will be offering up to 16 places in this last round of The Health Foundation Leadership Fellows scheme.

What is provided?

A tailored personal and professional development programme includes coaching, peer learning and expert guidance. A commitment of approximately two days per month over a 22 month period is required. Successful applicants must be prepared to participate fully in all aspects of the scheme.

Run by Fiona Reed and Tim Sims, two of The Health Foundation’s team of experienced leadership development consultants, the scheme includes the following elements:

  • One-to-one coaching that provides a valuable opportunity to focus on participants’ individual needs and performance in the work environment.
  • Action learning sets where participants work in small groups and learn about how they work with others, explore and develop a collaborative approach to leadership and learn from others’ experiences in the workplace.
  • Seminars that provide the opportunity to learn from experts in the healthcare field about a wide range of leadership and quality improvement topics.
  • Four all-day workshops which allow participants to present their progress on a local quality improvement project to other fellows, patient representatives and selected colleagues.
  • A £6,000 development allowance, provided to address any learning needs identified through coaching. Travel, subsistence and incidental costs (for example, conference fees or books) incurred through participation in the scheme must also be covered from this allowance.
