Event rescheduled from 25 May 2017 due to the General Election.
Jim Mackey, Chief Executive of NHS Improvement, will be leading a roundtable discussion on NHS finances and consultant productivity. The conversation will draw upon analysis from our reports A year of plenty? and In short supply: pay policy and nurse numbers.
Jim Mackey will be joined on the panel by: Dr. Jennifer Dixon, Chief Executive of the Health Foundation; Anita Charlesworth, Director of Research and Economics at the Health Foundation; and Jim Buchan, Professor at Queen Margaret University, Edinburgh.
The discussion will address the financial pressures affecting the NHS, looking at what the NHS is doing and needs to do to be more productive. We will ask:
- Will a more coherent workforce strategy help the NHS get more from its highly skilled workforce?
- What does the system need to do to be more productive and what are the factors which can affect consultant productivity?
- How can we improve financial sustainability with the NHS facing rising cost and demand with historically low funding growth?
