The Health Foundation offers leadership development schemes - free of charge - to healthcare professionals from a variety of backgrounds and professions. Our Leaders for Change scheme and the Harkness/Health Foundation Fellowships in Healthcare Policy and Practice are currently open for applications.

 
     
 

Leaders for Change
Our Leaders for Change scheme aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge to lead change projects that will improve the quality of local healthcare services.

The scheme is work-based and develops learning based on participants' own experiences. It runs part-time over a maximum period of 14 months and provides:

  • a structured learning programme in change management at Lancaster University Management School
  • action learning sets to explore and identify solutions to the challenges participants face
  • an allowance for training and development
  • replacement staff costs for participants' employing organisation.

Healthcare professionals, including clinicians and managers, leading local service improvement projects can apply.

Harkness/Health Foundadtion Fellowship in Healthcare Policy and Practice
Our Harkness/Health Foundation Fellowships in Healthcare Policy and Practice provide a unique opportunity to spend a year in the USA examining the health system while working with leading health policy experts to conduct original research.

In partnership with The Commonwealth Fund, the fellowships provide:

  • the opportunity to work with leading USA healthcare researchers, government policy-makers and healthcare organisations on a research project to analyse a feature of the USA health system that has relevance to issues on the policy agenda in the UK
  • a rich programme of policy seminars
  • networking and learning opportunities pre- and post-fellowship
  • an allowance to support relocation, travel, visa and USA tax and health insurance, as well as replacement staff costs for the fellows’ UK employer.

The fellowships are aimed at experienced healthcare practitioners who have an existing interest in health systems, policy-making, policy-related research or policy implementation.
