The Health Foundation appoints two new directors

The Health Foundation today announces the appointments of Professor Martin Marshall as Director of Clinical Quality and Dr Jo Bibby as Director of Improvement Programmes.  Martin comes to The Health Foundation from the Department of Health where he was Deputy Chief Medical Officer and Jo was the Director for the Calderdale and Kirklees Integrated Service Strategy. Both join The Health Foundation in November.

Martin was a Harkness fellow in healthcare policy in 1998/99. His expertise in clinical quality is extensive having acted as an expert advisor to the Healthcare Commission, the Modernisation Agency, the National Clinical Assessment Service, the National Patient Safety Agency, the National Patient Safety Research Programme and the National Primary Care Collaborative.  He was also President of the European Society for Quality Improvement in Family Practice from 2005 to 2006 and was an advisor to the Organisation for Economic and Co-operation and Development (OECD). He has made a vital contribution to a range of health issues and most recently helped manage the serious problems with junior doctor training recruitment this year. Throughout, he has played an outstanding role in maintaining constructive dialogue between the Department and the medical profession.

Jo has worked in healthcare at national and local level for the last 15 years with a strong focus on quality improvement and performance.  Most recently, Jo led a major service reconfiguration programme to deliver improvements in quality, safety and patient experience.  She has led work locally for a number of national pilots including the Health Foundation’s Safer Patients Initiative and the National Diabetes Team.  Previously, Jo worked at the NHS Modernisation Agency and the Department of Health where she led the Health Technology Assessment programme and, as Head of NHS Performance, she oversaw the implementation of the policy agenda set out in the NHS Plan.
