Our priorities

While we work right across the spectrum of improving the quality of healthcare, we do focus on a number of key priorities. These strategic priorities will guide our work over the next two years.

Inspiring improvement through changing relationships between people and health services

We are working to make sure people are equipped to actively manage their care by highlighting innovative approaches to changing the relationship between people and health services, demonstrating these at scale and sharing our learning of what works.

Inspiring improvement through healthcare professionals

We want to inspire and build the will, enthusiasm and commitment among clinical communities to acknowledge and adopt system-wide quality improvement methods to enhance the patient experience and the quality of clinical care.

Inspiring improvement in patient safety

Working with policy makers, healthcare leaders and frontline staff we are building a network of safety minded people and organisations to test and develop new approaches in patient safety and create an evidence base for safer care.

Inspiring improvement by organising for quality

We are testing organisational strategies to align structures, processes and culture with quality improvement work. And, through our leadership programmes we are strengthening and building wider networks for quality improvement.

Inspiring improvement in the use of knowledge

We will work with with leading thinkers to define improvement science and build its credibility and acceptance as an applied academic discipline, and support our improvement science fellows to become future leaders of the science of improvement. ...

Inspiring improvement in value for money

Achieving higher quality for lower costs is a priority across the health service and we are therefore placing more emphasis on this across all of our work.
