Rebalancing relationships between people who use services and those who provide them (in association with the HSJ).

The Health Foundation knows that to achieve the best health outcomes and experience, people need to play an active role in their own care and for the support they are given to be responsive to their needs. That is why we’re seeking to radically transform the relationship between people who use services and those who provide them.

This supplement explores how changing the interaction between patients and service providers can be a driver for improving quality.

The supplement presents research and evidence, showcases good practice case studies and stimulates discussion which encourages people to get involved in shifting the culture. It creates the sense of setting a new agenda and making a fresh start.

The supplement also includes:

  • the work of the Health Foundation and its programmes such as Co-creating Health and Shared Decision Making, which are working to transform the relationship between patients and service providers
  • a roundtable discussion, hosted by the Health Foundation, on various issues with some of the opinion leaders in the field, focusing on what changes are needed to transform the dynamic between patients and service providers
  • research findings from workshops with patients, clinicians and managers
  • research findings from reports about the interaction between patients and healthcare systems and between communities and services.
