Icaro leads the REAL Centre’s portfolio on efficiency, productivity and international comparisons. His work focuses on understanding the drivers of productivity in the healthcare system, as well as providing analysis on the resilience of the system.
Before joining the Health Foundation, Icaro worked as an Economist across various areas at the Bank of England for several years. His roles focused on mainly on leading analysis to support policy decisions related to the long-term sustainability of the financial system. This included areas such household debt, macroprudential banking regulation and financial markets functioning.
Icaro also worked at the Department of Health and Social Care as an Economic Advisor, focusing on policies related to innovation in the pharmaceutical and medicines sector.
Icaro has a first degree majoring in Economics and Politics from the University of Bath and an MSc in Economics from the Barcelona Graduate School of Economics (Pompeu Fabra).
