About me

Isabel is a GenerationQ Fellow and Clinical Director and Consultant Anaesthetist at Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

She has been a Consultant Anaesthetist for 12 years, and became Clinical Director for anaesthesia, critical care, theatres and sterile services in 2017. She has clinical responsibility for the financial and operational delivery of services, as well as strategic planning, governance and workforce leadership. In 2019 she will take on a new role as Clinical Transformation Lead across both Bournemouth and Poole Hospitals.

Isabel was a college tutor from 2010 to 2016, responsible for the training, development and pastoral care of trainees in anaesthesia. During this time she developed an interest in supporting doctors returning to practice, regionally and then nationally as part of the GASagain group, who were awarded the Humphrey Davy Medal by the Royal College of Anaesthetists in 2017 in recognition of this work.

In taking on a new senior strategic leadership role, Isabel will be working across two acute foundation trusts helping to shape a major reconfiguration of clinical services. Engaging staff from two very different organisations and redeveloping patient pathways will be a complex process, and she hopes the GenerationQ fellowship will help with the challenges this will bring.

'GenerationQ will give me the opportunity to develop the technical leadership skills and tools needed to develop patient services and build effective relationships across professional and organisational boundaries.

'The GenerationQ fellowship will enable me to learn to challenge my preferred way of doing things, which may unlock complex issues and ultimately improve patient care.'
