About me
Jennifer is a GenerationQ Fellow and Consultant Surgeon at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust.
She is responsible for the delivery of a rapid, high-quality breast diagnostic service. She has developed the breast surgical research programme at the Trust, focusing on measurement and prediction of appearance after breast cancer surgery and new techniques for guiding surgeons removing small cancers.
Jennifer has worked at The Royal Marsden since 2010 and prior to that was an Oncoplastic Fellow at the Trust. Her training included a National Oncoplastic Fellowship in Birmingham and a Research Fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in the US.
During her GenerationQ fellowship, Jennifer will be working on a project to develop a web-based quality improvement support system for clinicians, offering frontline staff the opportunity to make small changes rapidly and sequentially. She explained that 'in addition to the benefits to patients from any changes, the Trust will benefit from improvements in safety, effectiveness and efficiency from each project.'
Through GenerationQ, Jennifer is hoping to disseminate her learning and use her skills to lead improvement among all staff. 'I anticipate that I will be able to bring about an evolution in the way changes for quality improvement are instigated, measured and disseminated.'
She is also interested in the co-production element of quality improvement: 'The impact of involving patients in research has made a big impression on me and I anticipate that this programme will help me take this further to make co-production routine in our service.'
