Nick Bateson has been appointed as the new Chief Operating Officer at the Health Foundation.

Nick is currently Director of Finance, Planning and Performance at the Office for National Statistics (ONS). He will be stepping down from this role in September before starting at the Health Foundation in October 2022.

Before taking up his role at the ONS, Nick worked at the National Audit Office for more than a decade, most recently as Client Director for HM Treasury.  

The Health Foundation is a leading UK charity, focused on improving health and health care for people in the UK. 

Nick replaces Paul Hackwell, who retires from the role this summer. 

Dr Jennifer Dixon, Chief Executive at the Health Foundation, said: 

‘I am thrilled that Nick is joining the organisation. He brings a wealth of experience in managing operations for large, public-focused organisations, which will be invaluable in supporting the Foundation to deliver on our mission to bring about better health and care for people in the UK. 

‘I’m looking forward to him starting in October, following Paul Hackwell who will be moving on to enjoy a much-deserved retirement after many years of loyal support. Paul leaves the Health Foundation in excellent shape.’ 

Nick Bateson, incoming Chief Operating Officer at the Health Foundation, said: 

‘I am excited to join the Health Foundation as it continues to deliver its mission to bring about better health and care for people in the UK.  

I’m looking opportunity to work with the Dr Jennifer Dixon and the management team at the Foundation, to ensure that the organisation is set up to deliver on the ambitions of its strategy.’
