Senior leaders in health to gain from Health Foundation leadership programme

The Health Foundation is looking for senior leaders from health care policy and practice and the charity sector to apply for a part-time and fully funded leadership programme.

GenerationQ provides the opportunity for senior leaders working in and with the health service, including charity organisations and policy makers, to gain a postgraduate certificate in Leadership (Quality Improvement) from Ashridge Business School, with the option of completing an MSc.

Through the programme the Health Foundation is aiming to create a network of individuals who are able and willing to have an impact on improving quality beyond their immediate sphere of influence. Now recruiting for its fifth cohort, GenerationQ is developing Health Foundation Fellows through a combination of leadership and improvement methodology.

Applicants are invited from a diverse range of professional backgrounds including medical and nursing roles, managers, and allied health professions.

Mandip Korotana, Head of Programmes at the Health Foundation, comments: 'We are looking for a strong and diverse cohort who will bring a range of experiences to share and a desire to learn from one another.  In return, Fellows take part in a programme over 18 months which blends the latest thinking and research in improvement methodologies with the leadership qualities needed to drive change. Fellows will also enhance their development experience by putting what they have learned into practice and therefore provide direct benefit to their organisation.'

Previous GenerationQ Fellow Victoria Bleazard, Director of Communications and Campaigns at the charity Rethink Mental Illness, comments: 'As someone from a charity background, the Fellowship has been a fascinating experience for me to learn alongside senior clinicians and managers. It has helped me to better understand how to effectively influence health systems, and through these peers I have a huge amount of support in my efforts to do so. We’ve brought together 13 mental health service providers to test interventions that will improve the care of people with schizophrenia and psychosis, with the aim of identifying the most effective interventions to be scaled up nationally. It’s an ambitious project and a much-needed opportunity to improve outcomes for people with severe and enduring mental health needs. I have begun to embed learning from the GenerationQ programme across my own organisation, which without this support would not have been possible.'
