Supporting better analytics in the health and care system Our funding and support is helping to grow communities of analysts, provide tools, and spread best practice in analytics

Making sense of health care data has the potential to shape improvements to NHS services. But we’re only starting to see the difference that can be made by using insights to improve quality of care.

We champion better analytics by supporting teams of analysts, clinicians, decision-makers and managers directly through our funded programme, Advancing Applied Analytics. We’re seeing the development of exciting projects across the UK that show ways to improve analytical capability through innovative applied analysis and shared learning across networks of peers and researchers.

Growing communities of analysts is a priority for us. We’re funding important networks that can help share learning, insights and experience across the health and care system to reduce duplication, make available open-source solutions to common problems and promote a community of practice.

In parallel, we work to increase demand for quality analysis by addressing analytical capability at board and executive level.

Our Untapped potential report sets out how decision-makers and leaders in the system are deploying their analytics resources to improve care, and our Analytical Capability Index allows organisations to measure and benchmark their current capability.

As part of our work in this area we're also collaborating with Health Data Research UK to fund and support projects aimed at demonstrating how patient care can be improved through data-driven decisions.
