Despite the research attention and policy focus on health in Scotland, health inequalities remain widespread and persistent. Scotland currently has the lowest average life expectancy at birth of all UK countries, and one of the lowest in western Europe.

Over 2022, the Health Foundation, along with our research partners in Scotland, carried out an independent review to build a better understanding of health and health inequalities in Scotland over the past 20 years, why they persist despite policy intent and what we need to do to tackle them.

In this webinar we explored the review’s findings and discussed the ‘so what now?’ for tackling health inequalities in Scotland.
