Gillian Traub Director of Operations

About me

Gillian is a GenerationQ Fellow and Director of Operations at Northern Health and Social Care Trust.

She has worked at Northern Health and Social Care Trust since 2007 and has been Co-Director for Cancer and Specialist Medicine since 2014. Her role involves leading the strategic development and operational delivery of the services within the Cancer and Specialist Medicine Division, as well as having a trust-wide remit for cancer multi-disciplinary teams, cancer performance and patient pathways.

Also within her remit are a number of Northern Ireland-wide services, for example the Northern Ireland Cancer Centre and the Regional Renal Transplant Programme. A large part of her role therefore involves working with other trusts, the Health and Social Care Board and the Department of Health (NI).

Gillian has previously led a number of QI projects, including the use of LEAN methodology to prompt a redesign of existing services and the creation of an extended day chemotherapy unit. This reduced inpatient bed usage for chemotherapy by 90%, reduced waiting times and improved patient and staff experience. A further example is the creation of an acute oncology and haematology service, which will streamline the pathway for patients requiring urgent assessment and consideration for admission.

Through GenerationQ, Gillian is looking to implement further QI projects within the services in her remit in order to improve quality, safety, and patient and staff experience. Gillian hopes GenerationQ will help her to successfully lead this ambitious project: ‘I am keen to learn and consider new strategies for creating and sustaining a culture of QI, and inspiring and building confidence among staff to realise their own value and role in improving the quality of their services.’
