About me

I am Generation Q Fellow (cohort 4) and Macmillan Consultant in Palliative Medicine at London North West Healthcare NHS Trust.

I am the lead clinician for palliative medicine at the trust and and Medical Director at St Luke’s Hospice in Harrow.

I qualified in Medicine from the University of Manchester in 1988, also gaining a BSc (Hons) in experimental immunology and oncology . I initially trained in general practice before retraining in palliative medicine and gaining specialty accreditation in 1996.

I was appointed to my first consultant post at West Middlesex Hospital in 1996 and took up my current role in 1998.

For the last few years I have taken on a Clinical Director post in the Integrated Care Development Programme in Harrow, a NW London CCG. This is fascinating and challenging. It involves both testing changes in the way I work, supporting and coaching myself and others to make changes, test them and build improvements and strategic level system changes.

I am a continuous learner, trying hard to put the theory I learn into practice and become a better leader more effective at influencing colleagues and wider stakeholders. I’m also interested in learning more about how to measure and demonstrate quality improvement in palliative care. Demonstrating quality in palliative care represents a particular challenge since effective delivery requires a great deal of partnership working across services and providers.'

I learn so much from building relationships with a diverse network of peers and mentors who share different professional experiences and perspectives .
