Dr Caroline Johnson Assistant Director of Quality Governance and Patient Safety

About me

Caroline Johnson is a GenerationQ Fellow and Assistant Director of Quality Governance and Patient Safety at Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust, a mental health care provider.

She is accountable for the Trust’s patient safety reporting system and actions taken to address incidents, as well as Care Quality Commission (CQC) compliance and ensuring that care groups have robust clinical governance processes in place.

Quality improvement is a key component of her role, and she works with clinical teams to improve systems and processes, and overall care. Clinically, she supports teams with complex cases, attending complex case panels and undertaking long-term seclusion and segregation reviews.

Caroline has previously been Deputy Clinical Director at Lancashire Care NHS Foundation Trust and Director of Operations at The Retreat York mental health care provider, before joining Humber Teaching NHS Foundation Trust in 2017.

During her GenerationQ fellowship, Caroline will focus on the use of QI methodology to improve patient safety. Of particular interest is how Appreciative Inquiry can facilitate conversations and learning in relation to safety II. This work will have positive impacts on patient safety, patient experience, staff morale, and the quality and effectiveness of care delivery.'

The Trust has launched a QI strategy, and Caroline is working hard on driving these improvements across the Trust. 'GenerationQ will help me to further contribute to the strategic direction of the Trust, deliver QI and develop the skills of the workforce in relation to QI.'
