About me
Eileen is a GenerationQ Fellow and Founding Director and Coach at Turning Tides.
Since completing her fellowship, Eileen set up her own business (TurningTides) which helps people and organisations to navigate complex change.
Eileen begun her career in her native Shetland Islands in the late 1970s and has a background in general and mental health nursing, practice development and quality improvement.
She moved into clinical leadership roles during the 1990s and has extensive experience of leading change to improve services at all levels of the NHS. She has held roles in various health systems in Scotland and England.
Her last NHS role was as Executive Nurse Director with Healthcare Improvement Scotland (and its predecessor body, Healthcare Improvement Scotland), where she led work to strengthen the organisation’s approach to supporting implementation and improvement. Prior to that she was Executive Director of Nursing with NHS Borders for six years.
During her career, she has undertaken study into various aspects of health care in the USA, Czech Republic, South Africa and New Zealand, all of which has been invaluable in informing her work in leading improvement and managing transitions.
Eileen was awarded an OBE in 2013 in recognition of her contribution to health care and nursing.
