About me

Eleanor is an Improvement Science Fellow and Senior Research Fellow (Improvement Science) at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford.

Eleanor has extensive experience in the health sector: a 20-year career in health services management; in addition to work as a management consultant advising on national and local health projects.

She was Head of Clinical Governance and Associate Director of HR – Organisational Development at Hammersmith Hospitals NHS Trust (now part of Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust), Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development at Royal Surrey County Hospital NHS Trust, and Public Health Researcher at Imperial.

Eleanor was also an Honorary Lecturer, research fellow and post-doctoral researcher in the Faculty of Medicine at Imperial College London. Her PhD examined organisational resilience in the UK health sector. She has a MSc in organizational behaviour and a MA in managing health services.

Eleanor’s research focuses on organisational and system change, resilience and leadership. She is interested in how change is constructed in organisations and systems, the context of change and the impact and outcomes of change for stakeholders. Eleanor’s latest research examines how resilience can be understood, assessed and applied in health, in the newly emerging field of organisational resilience.

For the Improvement Science Fellowship, Eleanor took on a project around assessing large-scale system change as a mechanism to achieve patient safety.
