About me

Fiona is a GenerationQ Fellow and Lead Officer, Primary Care, NHS Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group.

Fiona has held a range of NHS managerial roles related to service improvement, strategic development and innovation. In her current role as Deputy Chief Operating Officer and Innovation Lead for the NHS Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), she works with partners, clinicians and communities to commission a wide range of services to meet local health needs.

Over the past two years Fiona has extended her focus from leading on Quality, Improvement, Productivity and Prevention (QIPP), to being the senior management lead for integration and engagement. As Innovation Lead for the CCG, she is also responsible for developing a culture of continuous quality improvement.

Fiona uses her improvement skills to lead and support teams to deliver challenging projects. However, she hopes GenerationQ will help her to challenge the way she has traditionally worked and to manage the complexity of multi-organisational priorities: ‘I need to develop my understanding of why people and organisations make the decisions they do, so that I can try to optimise the environment for change across our system.’

Fiona is currently developing the CCG engagement strategy and work plan for the next three years: ‘A key development is enhancing our skills to work more collaboratively with our communities and service users when we design new services and pathways of care’. In particular, Fiona is looking forward to working on an improvement initiative to develop a combined intermediate care and reablement service: ‘There is an opportunity to both reduce re-admissions to hospital and demand for long-term residential care.’
