Fiona Kew Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist and Gynaecology Lead Clinician

About me

Fiona is a GenerationQ Fellow and Consultant Gynaecological Oncologist and Gynaecology Lead Clinician at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

She divides her time between providing specialised care for the region and conducting several leadership roles relating to clinical management, governance, strategy and service improvement.

Fiona is motivated to provide the highest possible quality of care through improving the systems and pathways that patients pass through. Her strong track record in service improvement includes implementing enhanced recovery processes in gynaecology and developing overall strategy for multidisciplinary teams.

She is currently the lead clinician for a Trust-wide service-improvement initiative, Seamless Surgery. This programme is dedicated to improving the elective surgical pathway from the decision to operate through to discharge after surgery, providing a truly patient-centred experience.

Fiona’s ambition is to introduce a patient feedback programme that has the potential to deliver a change in culture, improve patient experience and produce efficiency savings within her trust: ‘I aim to further integrate patients and the public into all areas of the trust to ensure co-design of services, so that they are designed around the needs and wishes of the patients, rather than primarily around organisational factors.’

She hopes that the GenerationQ programme will improve her leadership skills and enable her to maximise her effectiveness. She is also keen to gain an in-depth understanding of different quality improvement methodologies: ‘I think that this greater knowledge will enable me to use the right tools at the right time, and to therefore deliver improvements more efficiently’.
