Helen Wensley Programme Director – Strategy

About me

Helen is a GenerationQ Fellow and the Programme Director for Strategy at Barts Health NHS Trust.

She works across the Trust and the wider health care system to develop and implement strategic programmes focused on pathway optimisation and reconfiguration of services to improve patient outcomes. She is responsible for developing strong relationships with commissioning and provider partners, creating innovative opportunities to transform patient care through re-design and collaboration.

She has held various senior management roles within Barts Health, including General Manager, Divisional Manager and Director of Emergency Care. She became Programme Director in 2018.

During her GenerationQ fellowship, Helen will be leading an improvement project to develop best-practice pathways with an integrated approach to support the specific needs of young adults affected by long-term illness. Key to the design will be a programme that focuses on life skills, empowerment and education for these young adults.

This improvement project will see clinical teams from across specialist areas come together in a wider multi-professional team. 'I am hopeful that changes in the way services will be commissioned in the future will give us a real opportunity to do things differently.

'These changes, along with changes in patient expectations and digital technology, will allow us to collaborate and work with our health and social care partners to leave a lasting positive legacy for the local population.

'I am eager to develop my knowledge and understanding of how best to facilitate and deliver effective improvement. GenerationQ will provide me with the opportunity to marry the theoretical with the practical.'
