About me
Ian is a GenerationQ Fellow and Chief Executive Officer at the Royal College of Physicians.
Ian is an experienced clinician and leader, with expertise in quality improvement, evidence based health care, critical care clinical practice, clinical and higher education. He leads strategic and operational development at a national and international level with the Royal College of Physicians (RCP), with over 35,000 members and 400 staff.
He is a Quality Improvement and Leadership Fellow of the Health Foundation, has academic fellowships at Warwick and Keele University, and was recently awarded a Fellowship by the European Resuscitation Council.
Ian has enjoyed senior positions within the NHS, at a number of academic institutions and professional bodies and more latterly has played a leading role in delivering the Royal College of Physicians' ‘Future Hospital Programme’ and in enabling the RCP to deliver its ambitious five year strategy. In the RCP’s quincentenial year, he continues to position the RCP as a leading voice shaping the future of healthcare.
He has recently taken an advisory role to the Board of a large primary care provider in London, and is keen to help make the connections across health care systems in exploring new models of care and the developing contribution of digital health.
A key driver to all the work he is involved in is the desire ‘make a difference’ in improving patient outcome and their experience of care. These powerful combinations of clinical practice, education and research are key drivers in his career commitment to make a difference to patient outcomes/experience.
