Justin Tuggey Clinical Director for Digital Care

About me

Justin is a GenerationQ Fellow and Clinical Director for Digital Care at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust.

At the time of his fellowship he was Consultant Respiratory Clinician at Airedale NHS Foundation Trust, and successfully expanded his role to include areas of increasing responsibility, such as Trust Caldicott Guardian and Chief Clinical Information Officer.

In his position as Clinical Director for Digital Care, Justin was responsible for implementing an ambitious programme to deliver a fully integrated electronic health record. A key part of this role is engaging with and supporting staff to embrace change and new ways of working: ‘The importance of engagement and understanding of differing viewpoints from the clinical and administrative staff cannot be overemphasised.’

Justin recently gained the trust of his colleagues when leading on the clinical implementation and engagement of electronic prescribing within acute hospital wards: ‘I believe that the commitment I have shown to delivering a safe, workable product, whilst also demonstrating and believing in the potential benefits for patients and staff alike, has been recognised by many of my clinical colleagues.’

He hopes that this experience, combined with skills he will learn from GenerationQ, will give him the confidence to further explore the benefits of technology-enabled care and lead on future quality improvement projects: ‘I expect to be in a position to more effectively deliver change, and become a more dynamic, trusted leader in the NHS.’

In particular, he expects the programme to help him fully implement the electronic health record: ‘If delivered successfully, the potential impact of this improvement programme is major, with tangible benefits to patients, staff and the health economy.’
