About me

Niladri Ghosal is a GenerationQ Fellow and Consultant Oncologist at the North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre.

The North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre serves a population of over 700,000 through three large district general hospitals. Niladri's clinical role is leading treatment teams that manage patients with lung, breast and brain cancers. Other roles in the department include research, education and service improvement.

Niladri is also an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Manchester University and an Educational Supervisor of the Welsh Deanery. Previously he worked as a Specialist Registrar at The Christie NHS Foundation Trust, Royal Preston Hospital and West Yorkshire Deanery.

Through GenerationQ, Niladri hopes to enhance his leadership skills, and learn about improvement methodologies and leadership of change: ‘Enhancing my leadership skills will enable me to bring together the resources we have in the workforce to attain the goal of delivering the highest quality health care to the local people, encouraging the highest quality research in cancer care, and doing so in a financially viable way.’

In particular, Niladri is looking to develop and promote an electronic care record system at the North Wales Cancer Treatment Centre in order to provide comprehensive and up-to-date information to clinicians at the point of patient care, which would minimise error: ‘There will be logistic and cultural barriers to this change. Clear and open communication explaining the benefits of the change to staff will be key to its success.’

The project will use existing locally available expertise and resources, including the existing software system, which has had patchy uptake among staff.
