About me

Oliver is a Health Foundation Leadership Fellow and Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

At the time of his fellowship, Oliver was Clinical Research Fellow and Surgical Registrar for NHS London Strategic Health Authority.

Oliver studied at Imperial College School of Medicine, where he graduated Bachelor of Science (Hons) in 1998, and Bachelor of Medicine (Hons) and Surgery (Hons) in 2001. His performance in his final examinations led to him being awarded the Imperial College Gold Medal and being proxime accessit to the University of London Gold Medal. At the end of his Basic Surgical Training he became a Member of the Royal College of Surgeons of England.

At the time of his fellowship, Oliver had been in his post since February 2006, where he was undertaking a two year period of formalised research leading to a submission of a thesis for a Doctor of Medicine degree (MD). He had four main areas of responsibility: Academic, Clinical, Educational and Project Management. In this period, he published over 20 scientific papers, and presented his work nationally and internationally.

He had been clinical lead on projects to enhance clinician-manager relations, develop leadership in trainee surgeons and empower patients to be involved in their own safety in hospital.

He continued to work as a surgical registrar at St. Mary’s Hospital and was heavily involved in teaching undergraduates at Imperial College Faculty of Medicine.

During his time as a fellow, he was seconded to Professor the Lord Darzi of Denham’s ministerial office at the Department of Health, as an adviser and also spent one day a week at the strategic health authority, working on a project to identify and develop future medical leaders.
