Anita Charlesworth, Director of Research and Economics at the Health Foundation, commented:

'Today's report from ADASS is yet more evidence of the fragile state of social care. Services are increasingly stretched and facing significant funding and workforce challenges. If budgets continue to fall then services will have to be reduced even further, meaning fewer people getting the care they need. It is also worrying about the potential impacts under-resourcing has on quality of care with today’s report outlining that over two thirds of local authorities say that social care providers have already faced quality challenges.'

‘Despite the challenges, the solutions are far from straightforward. Through the forthcoming green paper the government must take bold action to deliver much needed reform and above all, funding increases of at least 3.9% a year or more vulnerable people will suffer.’
