The Health Foundation has appointed Professor Rosalind Smyth, an internationally-recognised leader in child health, to its board of governors.

Professor Smyth is currently Director of the UCL Institute of Child Health, as well as an honorary consultant respiratory paediatrician and non-executive director at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children NHS Foundation Trust. She has held major leadership roles in the NHS and at two universities, developed a world-leading national research network and had a substantial impact on health policy for child health.

Professor Smyth’s current research interests focus on childhood respiratory disease. She was awarded a CBE in 2015 for services to the regulation of medicines in children.

Dr Jennifer Dixon, the Health Foundation’s chief executive, commented: 'I am delighted to welcome Rosalind to the board. Her extensive experience in child health, and in senior governance roles, will be very much valued in particular as the Foundation expands its mission into improving health as well as health care.'

Professor Rosalind Smyth comments: 'I have long admired the work of the Health Foundation, its research and its impact on policy.  It will be a great privilege to contribute to this work and I’m very much looking forward to this role.'
