Paula Scullin Chair of Division/Consultant Medical Oncologist

About me

Paula is a GenerationQ Fellow, and Consultant Medical Oncologist and Chair of the Cancer and Specialist Medicine Division at Belfast Health and Social Care Trust.

Working alongside the Co-Director and Divisional Nurse, she is responsible for leading the oncology, haematology, nephrology and renal transplant, and specialist medicine (rheumatology, palliative care and dermatology) services at the Trust. With her divisional team, she is also responsible for creating a culture of devolved leadership, and continually improving the quality and safety of care that is provided to patients.

Paula is Chair of the Northern Ireland Cancer Network Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapy Clinical Reference Group and she is also Clinical Lead for a Northern Ireland-wide project to implement an electronic patient record and chemotherapy prescribing system in oncology and haematology services across the five Health Trusts in Northern Ireland.

As part of a regional review of oncology services, Paula is leading on testing an app to facilitate real-time toxicity and symptom reporting for oncology patients. 'The project aims to improve clinical outcomes using a more proactive approach to toxicity reporting and management, enhance workflow and productivity, and reduce waiting times for outpatient clinics.'

She is hoping GenerationQ will help her to lead quality improvement projects such as this. 'I am keen to develop my knowledge and skills in leadership, and look forward to not only learning about the theory, but putting that knowledge into practice.'
