About me
Jason is a Quality Improvement Fellow and National Clinical Director, Healthcare Quality and Strategy, in the Scottish Government
He is one of the senior team responsible for implementation of the NHS Scotland Quality Strategy.
Jason was the 2011 HFMA UK Clinician of the Year, an award which acknowledges the importance of clinical engagement in financial management. In particular it recognises a clinician who has taken financial responsibility for their services, led efficiency or improvement programmes or provided an example for other clinicians by engaging with the financial management agenda.
Jason has been part of the team who have transformed the safety of Scottish health care leading to 20,000 fewer than expected deaths, 80% reduction in health care associated infections and a 24% reduction is surgical mortality. The improvement work in Scotland is now spreading to education, criminal justice and other public sector change.
Jason has a Doctorate from the University of Glasgow, an MPH from Harvard and is a fellow of the three UK surgical Royal Colleges.
He is also a Trustee of Indian Rural Evangelical Fellowship which runs orphanages in southeast India, a role that involves regular medical trips.
