Andrew joined the Health Foundation's investment committee as an independent member in December 2020.
His career has included working in the civil service, commercial banking, stockbroking and fund management. From 2000 until 2020 he was Head of Global Strategy at Standard Life / Aberdeen Standard Investments. In this role, he helped form the House View and advised institutional clients across the world about asset allocation decisions.
Andrew is now an independent economist and investment consultant. He writes regularly on a wide variety of financial matters for Jackson Hole Economics, the Munix local authority platform, and the trade press. He is a senior adviser to the Society of Professional Economists and frequently undertakes interviews with senior economists around the world. He is an adviser to Balmoral Asset Management and to the Devlin Mambo consultancy, and a trustee to several Scottish charities – often helping them update their investment processes and incorporate environmental, social and governance factors into their decision making.
Andrew remains involved with academia, having been a member of Court of Heriot Watt University, and also innovation, having been a Governing Board member of the Technology Strategy Board, now Innovate UK. He received an OBE. in 2015 for ‘services to innovation and the economy’.
