About the project
The impact of health inequalities on wider society and the economy is clear. Citizens Advice clients are often the ones at the sharp end of this structural issue, with many experiencing multiple negative influences on their health such as debt, employment and housing issues.
As an organisation, Citizens Advice play a unique role in supporting people to resolve problems on a range of issues from debt and money to welfare and work. Frontline advisors witness how social, economic and environmental factors intersect with health inequalities.
Through this project Citizens Advice will use and expand its evidence base to capture the interaction between social and economic issues, health inequalities and health outcomes at a national and local level.
The project will explore how policies exacerbate health inequalities, where policy can successfully close gaps or remove barriers, and aims to influence policymakers with findings and recommendations for change.
This research will focus on three broad themes, including economic activity and housing. A new data dashboard will be produced, sharing what Citizens Advice know about health outcomes for people who come to them for support with health-related benefits.
