A new cohort of 18 health leaders joins the Sciana Network

18 health leaders from Germany, Switzerland and the UK have been selected to join the eighth cohort of Sciana: The Health Leaders Network.  

The Fellows selected for the latest cohort will come together to tackle issues on the theme of ‘systems leadership for ageing in good health’. 

The 2-year leadership programme for cohort 8 will explore the continuum of health and care, from preventive approaches to integrated models, including palliative and dementia care. The cohort will examine how to build person-centred, sustainable systems that anticipate and respond to the evolving needs of ageing populations at different life stages. 

Cohort 8 will attend four residential meetings in Salzburg to exchange strategies, innovations and bold ideas in their work across Germany, Switzerland and the UK. Extending beyond health and care services to include the broader wellbeing of older adults, Fellows will explore future trends influencing mental, emotional and social wellbeing; purpose and meaning in life; and social capital in communities.  

Established in April 2017, the Sciana Network now has a community of more than 100 leaders in health across Europe, focusing on future challenges for health and wellbeing. It is supported by an international partnership between the Health Foundation (UK), Careum (Switzerland) and the Bosch Health Campus (Germany) in collaboration with Salzburg Global.

The six UK Fellows, alongside the rest of their cohort, will take part in an applied leadership project, the Sciana Challenge. In addition to having access to the wider network of Fellows, cohort 8 will receive guidance and support from Sciana advisers, guest speakers, and programme co-leads Mary Helen Pombo and David Behan.
