The government introduced the ‘Health Bill’ in May 2026, and it is one of the most significant pieces of health legislation of the last 10 years.

It proposes to abolish NHS England, Healthwatch and the Health Services Safety Investigation Branch, and hand sweeping powers to the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care. It will also create the single patient record, make changes to integrated care boards, and much more besides.
